First aid and Supplements

Bearded dragons require supplements in order to stay healthy. It is recommended that bearded dragons are given calcium powder without D3 three times a week and vitamins with D3 two times a week. Without the proper supplements your bearded dragon can become weak and ill.

Providing proper first aid to a bearded dragon is important. There are over the counter items that can be used, as always it is always best to contact a herpetologist (reptile vet). Things you can safely use on bearded dragons include:

  • Chlorhexidine Solution: An antiseptic/antibacterial agent that can be added to a warm bath. Allow Bearded dragon to soak for roughly 10 minutes, allowing wound/s to soak. Betadine is a safe alternative.

  • Silver Sulfadiazine Cream: Used to treat burns, bacterial infections and some fungal infections. If you believe your dragon has an infection it is a good idea to have it check out.

  • Styptic Powder: Used to stop bleeding.

  • Neosporin without pain reliever: A triple antibiotic ointment you can use on sores, cuts, scrapes etc.

  • Repashy Grub Pie: Meal replacement

  • Medical Grade Raw Manuka Honey: Used to treat burns and wounds.

  • Activated Charcoal to induce vomiting, follow up with vet.

Bearded dragons are wonderful at hiding pain and illness, if you have any concern or notice your bearded dragon is off it is recommended you seek vet care.
