Lighting and Heating

It is important to ensure you have the proper set up for you vivarium, including your light placements. Here is a graphic of some of the different placements you can choose from

Bearded dragons require 12 hours of daytime and 12 hours of night time. the best way to achieve this is using a smart outlet that you can program to turn on and off at certain times.

The sleep schedule the dragons at Fire and Ice use is 8am to 8pm regardless of season.

Suggested UVB Lights

  • The Arcadia Reptile:

    6% or 12% dessert with D3

  • Raptisun

    5.0 or 10.0

Replace yearly

22” 24w bulb

UVB fixture should always have a reflector.

  • For larger homes you do not want the UVB to exceed half of the enclosure.

  • UVB should be placed over basking spot.

  • Install inside of vivarium if possible.

Distance = 8-12” use 5.0 or 6% UVB

Distance = 12-18” use 10.0 or 12%

Heat/Basking Light

Bearded dragons do best in captivity with halogen heat lamps, 100x PAR38. Using a halogen you will want a dimmer switch to regulate the temperature.

  • Arcadia Solar Basking Spot Lamp

  • Arcadia Halogen Flood Lamp

  • Arcadia Heat Lamp

Wattage will depend on the temperatures in the house, the best way to check the temperatures in a vivarium is with a heat gun.

For the thermometer/hygrometer digital is best.

Other

CHE (Ceramic Heat Element)

If you find you can not keep your vivarium at a warm enough temperature even with changing the wattage of the bulb you can use a ceramic heat element with the basking light.

A ceramic heat element may be used during the night if temperatures drop before 65 degrees.

Colored lights

Bearded dragons do not need red or blue lights in are not recommended using for bearded dragons or in their homes. The colored light disrupts their sleeping, obstruct vision, and cause day/night cycle to become irregular.
